Description
On the occasion of a monitoring mission (April 2003) to the World Heritage property of Potala Palace in Lhasa, including a visit to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and after consultations with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China and ICOMOS, the World Heritage Centre proposed that the ICOMOS expert undertake a one-day monitoring mission to the Leshan Giant Buddha of Chengdu. This would enable the expert to examine the state of conservation and tourism development plans of the Leshan Giant Buddha World Heritage property.
