45 experts were trained on culture’s enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during a 4-day online training workshop from October 27, 2023, to January 17, 2024.

The experts are pre-selected members of the latest cohort of the UNESCO/EU Expert Facility supporting the UNESCO programme “Advancing evidence-based policies and actions and supporting policy making to enhance the contribution of creative sectors and industries to sustainable development” funded by the European Union. Spearheaded by UNESCO's commitment to advocating for the essential role of culture in sustainable development, the participants were trained on the UNESCO's Thematic Indicators for Culture in the 2030 Agenda - UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators. Aligned with the MONDIACULT principles, this conceptual framework serves as a tool to measure and monitor the progress of culture's enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Supported by entities such as the European Commission and Sida, the renewal of the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Expert Facility further solidifies the commitment to advancing evidence-based policies, programs and actions in the cultural sector. This expert network, comprising individuals from various regions and disciplines, stands ready to backing and accompanying Member States in implementing the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators, as well as supporting capacity building, analytical reporting and the development of indicators for emerging challenges such as Peace Building and Climate Change.

The success of the workshop has positioned these cultural experts to play a crucial role in the global landscape. Following the training, the selected experts will be called upon to support various national and local authorities with the implementation of the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators.
