The 13th Bamiyan Expert Working Group Meeting to be held in Munich

The 13th Bamiyan Expert Working Group Meeting will be held at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, from 1 to 3 December 2016. A set of recommendations for future safeguarding actions for the Cultural Landscape and Archaeological Remains of the Bamiyan Valley World Heritage property, Afghanistan will be released at the meeting.

The Meeting will be attended by the Governor of Bamiyan province, Deputy Minister of Culture of Afghanistan, accompanied by high-ranking officials from the government of Afghanistan, as well as representatives of donor countries, such as Germany, Italy, japan and Republic of Korea, along with 20 international experts from Italy, Germany, Japan. 

The Expert Working Group was formed in 2002, in line with the mandate for the co-ordination of all cultural projects in the country entrusted to UNESCO by the Afghan government. The Expert Working Group for Bamiyan co-ordinates activities carried out under the various UNESCO projects as well as bilateral ones funded by Germany, Italy, Japan and the republic of Korea.

It also advises the Government of Afghanistan in implementing the decisions adopted by the World Heritage Committee for the property in the areas of conservation and management of the property.

The Meeting was made possible thanks to the UNESCO/Japan Funds-in-Trust for safeguarding of the Bamiyan Buddha Niches and the invitation of the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
