Our Partners
To preserve our World Heritage legacy for generations to come, the World Heritage Centre partners with a diverse range of stakeholders, governments, international governmental organizations, civil society and the private sector dedicated to promote the 1972 Convention and reinforce the conservation of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
These alliances reflect a commitment to long-term sustainable development of the natural and cultural heritage and the characteristics for which sites are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Private Sector
The private sector is defined as everything that is not the public sector, comprising private corporations, households and non-profit institutions serving households. A further separation is often made between for-profit private corporations (business community) and not-for-profit groupings, also referred to as civil society.
Public Sector
Public partners of the World Heritage Centre group stakeholders that have an institutional link with one or more States. Governmental agencies are official institutions between a State party to the World Heritage Convention and the World Heritage Centre. National agencies and public universities are state organs or government-sponsored organs, that are part of the implementation of the State policy. Finally, international agencies are intergovernmental organizations gathering States to take measures at a regional or international level.
