The UNESCO Seabourn partnership supported the World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme throughout 2015-2024. The partnership worked to ensure that tourism delivered benefits for the conservation of the sites, supporting the sustainable development of local communities as well as delivering a quality experience for visitors.
For Seabourn's guests, the alliance meant that their travels were enhanced by deeper insight and behind-the-scenes information about World Heritage sites and projects. Speakers with special knowledge about World Heritage sailed on Seabourn's ships and the fares for excursions to hundreds of World Heritage properties included a donation towards UNESCO's World Heritage Fund. The partnership helped to support UNESCO’s efforts to expand, promote and preserve heritage assets for future generations of travelers.
Thanks to the partnership, UNESCO was able to work with World Heritage site management teams across the world to develop and implement various capacity building initiatives and tools for enhancing visitor management. The partnership supported various major initiatives including: the World Heritage Journeys travel platform, the Visitor Counts publication and the Communities for Heritage: Latin America and the Caribbean project.
