Symposium: Redefining Progress: Architecture for a New Humanism

24 May 2011

This first UNESCO / LOCUS Symposium presents and discusses ways of redefining progress today, changing from an industrial to a knowledge society. We present ways of creating a sustainable architecture for a new Humanism - "an architecture which is neither only visual nor only technological, but existential.

An architecture that regards the very essence of things, of places and of human beings" (Jana Revedin). While UNESCO reveals the urban renewal programme which is currently starting up at Hassan Fathy's housing settlement in New Gourna (Egypt), LOCUS invites the five winners of its Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2011 to present their work and philosophy.
