From 6 to 19 October 2012, Go4BioDiv will take place for the third time – parallel to COP 11 in Hyderabad, India. It will be hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), Government of India and carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) with support by various international partners.

The International Youth Forum Go4BioDiv gives young adults between 18 and 29 the possibility to engage in the Conferences of the Parties of the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD-COP). Initiated by the German development cooperation (GIZ) and the German National Park of the Bavarian Forest, Go4BioDiv has been carried out twice so far, in 2008 and 2010, parallel to the Conferences of the Parties in Germany and Japan. Young messengers from five continents sent wake-up-calls to the world community for conserving biological and the often associated cultural diversity.

The theme of Go4BioDiv 2012 will be ‘Conserving coastal and marine biodiversity for sustaining life and livelihoods’. In order to attract major media and political attention to the outputs of Go4BioDiv, the young Messengers should come from outstanding marine and coastal sites. The international participants (25 out of 35) must therefore have a close personal or working relationship with Marine World Heritage sites. Since India has the largest population of youth below 29 world-wide, 10 young leaders will come from other marine or coastal sites in India (1 per coastal State, 1 representing the Union Territories).
