Val de Loire – World Heritage Interpretation, Training for guides

28-30 November 2007

The Mission Val de Loire and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre are co-organizing a training session on interpreting the Val de Loire - World Heritage property The activity will be implemented by the Institut International Fleuves et patrimoine (IIFP), with the participation of the University of Angers, the Université Catholique de l'Ouest and the towns of the Saumur Loire Développement community.

The objective for the training is to enable guides working in the Val de Loire to fully appreciate the concepts and values related to World Heritage as well as the distinctive features of the Val de Loire World Heritage property, in order to be able to transmit these elements to the wider public through their interpretation activities.

It is open to cultural and natural heritage guides and interpreters working in Val de Loire's castles, monuments, natural park, Maisons de Loire, museums, and urban centres. Places are limited to 20 persons.

Sites managers registering trainees will be invited to participate in both the first and the last training session, as a means of enriching the interpretation of the ‘World Heritage' values of each of the property's represented by participants.

This brand new initiative is strongly recommended by the UNESCO World Heritage as a means of reinforcing the ‘World Heritage' dimension in the interpretation activities at World Heritage properties.
