Pacific World Heritage Workshop

27-30 November 2013

The UNESCO World Heritage Centre and UNESCO Office in Apia, in cooperation with the Department of National Heritage, Culture and Arts of the Republic of Fiji, are organizing a Pacific World Heritage Workshop from 27 to 30 November 2013. This activity has been financed by the UNESCO/Australian Funds-in-Trust alongside the World Heritage Centre and the World Heritage Fund.

The Workshop will bring together heritage experts from the Pacific States Parties, and from some States Parties with territories in the Pacific, and the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee, as well as experts from regional partners such as ICOMOS Pacifika, IUCN Oceania, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the Pacific Islands Museum Association (PIMA) and the University of the South Pacific (USP).

Participants will review progress and discuss the implementation of the Pacific World Heritage Action Plan (2010-2015) and other pressing issues, including the development of the activities of the “Pacific Heritage Hub” (PHH)—a regional facility for managing knowledge, building capacity, and forming partnerships, established this year at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. The Workshop will also be an opportunity to discuss preparations for the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) (Samoa, September 2014).
