World Heritage and Impacts of Developments: impacts of development activities and resource extraction in and around World Heritage properties in the Africa region.

This workshop will bring together experts and decision makers from the fields of developmental studies, resource extraction and heritage management. The aim is to begin a dialogue which leads to improved conservation and management of African World Heritage Sites. The discussions will build on the conclusions of a situational analysis conducted in the region on World Heritage and Impacts of development activities.
Expected outcomes of the workshop are:

  • An updated assessment of the relation between World Heritage Sites and extractive industries conducted in the region.
  • The development of a framework to address conservation needs of Africa's fragile heritage in the face of development activities and resource extraction at and around World Heritage Sites.
