Regional Workshop on Potential Themes for Serial and Transboundary Cultural Heritage Sites in the Pacific
The regional workshop has been proposed within the framework of the Action Plan for the implementation of the World Heritage – Pacific 2009 Programme. Furthermore, the proposed workshop in Vanuatu is in line with the World Heritage Global Strategy for a balanced, representative and credible World Heritage List.
This workshop has been organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in collaboration with the UNESCO Apia Cluster Office in Samoa, the Department of Conservation in New Zealand, the Vanuatu Cultural Centre in Vanuatu, and with financial support from the Nordic World Heritage Foundation.
The main objective of the workshop is to reach an agreement on serial and transboundary cultural themes that will assist the Pacific Island countries in developing their own Tentative Lists. A Desk Study, to serve as a basis for the workshop, is being conducted by Mr. Kevin Jones at the Department of Conservation in New Zealand.
