After three successful programme cycles of 4 years each, during the period from 2001 to 2012, the Dutch Government decided to extend the Netherlands Funds-in-Trust for another 4-year cycle during the period 2013-2016, for a total amount of 1.5 million Euros.

The implementation report “From Astronomy to Zanzibar – 10 Years of Dutch Support to World Heritage”, published by the World Heritage Centre in May 2012 during the 40th anniversary celebrations of the World Heritage Convention, gives an overview of support given to thematic programmes, cross-cutting initiatives and individual projects under the Netherlands Funds-in-Trust in the first ten years of its operation. For the 2013-2016 cycle, it was agreed to maintain the programme design and implementation that was used in previous cycles. In addition, support would be considered for a property on the List of World Heritage in Danger, when feasible.

The selection of projects and programmes for 2013 is related to the Strategic Objectives of the World Heritage Committee (5 C’s) and the sustainability of support given in terms of project follow-up or spin-off. The selected projects and programmes are:
