Europa Nostra Annual Congress

10-12 June 2010

The Europa Nostra Annual Congress in Istanbul, which is one of three 2010 European Capitals of Culture. It will offer participants a programme of exciting events taking place in world-renowned heritage venues within the historic Süleymaniye Quarter of the city.

Board and Council meetings, the General Assembly and the yearly Scientific Council Colloquium are planned, as well as a photo exhibition of Heritage Award winners, a Forum: Multiple Identities - A Common Heritage (11 June) and a European Heritage Awards Ceremony (10 June).

Planned meetings include the Europa Nostra Forum on the topical theme of "Multiple Identities, a Common Heritage", organised with the kind cooperation of the Mimar Sinan University, in the impressive setting of the Cultural Center Tophane, a true architectural landmark of historic Istanbul, built by the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. These events will be complemented by a variety of congress tours, receptions and dinners to ensure that participants experience Turkey's cultural heritage to the fullest.

The Congress should in particular provide  a platform for meeting representatives of a growing civil society movement committed to cultural heritage in Turkey, and for connecting those organisations with the wider European heritage movement. We also hope that the Congress will lead to the launch of Europa Nostra's country representation in Turkey, the aim of which will be to act as an efficient liaison and coordinating body between Europa Nostra and heritage NGOs in Turkey.
