Registration required -- see below

A One-Day Roundtable Discussion
Organized by the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Interpretation and Presentation (ICIP)
at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Paris
27 September 2006

In response to a recent request from ICOMOS International that ICIP analyze the need for additional assessment criteria relating to Interpretation at World Heritage sites, this workshop has been organized to discuss the current role of Interpretation in the inscription and monitoring process and examine possible assessment methodologies. Participants from the WHC, ICIP, the EU EPOCH Network, and other affinity organizations will share their varying experiences to analyze the relevance and applicability of existing professional standards and codes of “best practice” in Interpretation in a World Heritage context.

The goal of this workshop will be to analyze the potential benefit of interpretive standards at World Heritage sites. If deemed feasible, the participants will discuss possible procedural frameworks and work plans for collaboration between the WHC, ICIP, and the EPOCH Network in developing a set of clear and concrete evaluation criteria for public interpretation programmes and for the use of Interpretive Technologies at inscribed properties and for sites nominated for inscription in the World Heritage list.

If you would like to attend this meeting, please respond to the ICIP Secretariat at icomos-icip@enamecenter.org so that an entrance pass to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre can be arranged.
