The World Heritage Festival is organized by the National Museum of Costa Rica to mark the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. The event will celebrate World Heritage in Central America, showing the inclusive nature of World Heritage in the region and around the world.

Activities will take place at the National Museum in San José and at the museum of the Diquís World Heritage site.

In San José, UNESCO will have a stand where the public can learn about the World Heritage Convention and its history, the link between World Heritage and sustainable development, and especially learn about the 16 World Heritage sites in Central America. There will also be entertaining activities such as quizzes for children and adults, and the public will be invited to share their ideas about World Heritage through drawings and figurines.

The festival will also feature cultural activities organised by the National Museum of Costa Rica, including music and theatre performances, video screenings, and other activities around the stone spheres of the Diquís.

The Festival will be preceded by a talk on Thursday 17 November 2022 at the Museum, which will focus on the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. Authorities from the National Museum of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Environment will participate. UNESCO will offer a presentation focusing on "World Heritage as a source of Resilience, Humanity and Innovation".
