Symposium: 50 years of the World Heritage Convention - what future for World Heritage in France?

10-11 October 2022

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion are organizing two days of debate around the 49 French properties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Some sites will present their initiatives to preserve and enhance these properties in the face of climate change.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Association of French World Heritage Sites and the French section of ICOMOS.

It will take place at the Louvre-Lens Museum, built on a former mine pit and located on the site of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining basin. Both will celebrate an anniversary: the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the Mining Basin on the World Heritage List and the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Louvre-Lens Museum.
