The World heritage union of five Libyan municipalities (WHU5LM) - A meeting was held on Thursday 2/6/2022  at the municipality of Shahat, which included those Photography professionals and enthusiasts with the representative of the Union of World Heritage Municipalities in the municipality of Shahat with Dr. Ahmad Abdulkariem to discuss of the possibility of participation in the large World Heritage exhibition called by UNESCO to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, this exhibition that will be displayed on the walls of UNESCO headquarters next autumn.

It is reported that The World heritage union of five Libyan municipalities (WHU5LM) was established After decission of UNESCO’s world heritage committee in July 2016, which placed five Libyan world heritage sites on the list of world heritage in danger since they were added to UNESCO’s world heritage list of the world’s outstanding natural and cultural wonders in 1982, following in 1986.For this reason, five Libyan municipalities signed a document on Saturday to establish the world heritage union in Libya and this document also calls for a swift and urgent action to respond to the decission of UNESCO’s world heritage committee in July 2017 and they announced the World heritage union of five Libyan municipalities.

In fact, this is a response to the repeated demands by the World heritage committee and encouraging participations of the local population in the preservation of the heritage. This union consists of five Libyan municipalities which located close to the adminstrative borders with world heritage sites. They are Al-khums (Leptis Magna) Sabratha, Shahat (Cyrene) Ghadems (Cydamus) and Ghat. According to world heritage convention 1972.The state party is under an obligation of its protection and its management plans.
