The Historic Town of Grand Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire, will launch a tree planting initiative on 6 December 2014 to enhance its tree-lined boulevards.

On the occasion of the centenary of the creation of the town of Grand Bassam (1914-2014), the Town of Grand Bassam will begin to replant trees along the boulevards of Treich-Lapleine and Bonhoure, in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage House and 500 students the schools of the municipality.

The "re-greening" of the mango and coconut trees lining these two main streets will contribute to the conservation and enhancement of the Historic Town of Grand Bassam, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012. The project will also contribute to the restoration of the authenticity of the urban landscape of this historic city.
