Description
The Cathedral is considered to be the most important historical site of the country. Built in the 18th century, it holds its original structure until today.
The plans were elaborated by the guatemalan architect Diego Jose de Porres, member of the most important family of architects of the colonial epoch in Guatemala.
Its structure contains the sysmic characteristics developed in Old Guatemala which were very wide walls of very little height.
The dizzy vaults are predominant and the spacial concept responds to the Baroque of the area and its decoration denotes an incipient Neo-Classicism.
