It comprises an area of approximately 14 000ha of unvegetated and 1800ha of vegetated dunes. It stretches for 50km from the Sundays River Mouth to beyond Woody Cape. It is 2.2km wide on average, ranging from 140m high dunes right down to the beach. It is comprised of bare and vegetated dunes, bush pockets and dune slacks. Middens moreover occur throughout the area.
