The International World Heritage Expert Meeting on Criterion (vi)  and associative values which took place in Warsaw, Poland, 28-30 March 2012, adopted its recommendations at a closing session today. The conclusions and recommendations will be presented to the 36th session of the World Heritage Committee in Saint Petersburg  June 2012.

The meeting appreciated the support of the Government of Poland, especially the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Warsaw Municipal Office for Heritage Protection and Polish National Commission and the National Heritage Board of Poland for the financial support for organizing and generously hosting the important event in collaboration with English Heritage and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

The participants considered the evolution of criterion (vi) over time, reviewed case studies from different regions of the world, as well as extensive background material including on the topic of the heritage of science and technology.

The meeting was requested by the World Heritage Committee since 2010 and was attended by 26 participants, experts and resource persons, as well as by Representatives of IUCN, ICOMOS, ICCROM, and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
