Béthanie Wins UNESCO Heritage Award

Béthanie - the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Landmark Heritage Campus has been awarded an Honourable Mention at the 2008 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Awards.

An award presentation ceremony will take place on 9 December 2008 at the Béthanie campus. Officiating guests include Ms Béatrice Kaldun, UNESCO's China representative for Culture and Heritage; Mrs Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development; Professor Leung Nai-kong, Council Chairman of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; Professor Kevin Thompson, Director of the Hong Kong academy for Performing Arts; and Professor Anna Pao Sohmen, Chairman of the Academy's Béthanie Advisory Group.

The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards recognize the efforts of private individuals and organizations that have successfully restored and conserved structures and buildings of heritage value in the region. Eligible projects must be more than 50 years old and the restoration must have been completed within the past 10 years. Buildings must have also been in viable use for at least one year from the date of the awards announcement.
