The UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in collaboration with the UNESCO Apia Cluster Office in Samoa, Department of Conservation in New Zealand, and Vanuatu Cultural Centre in Vanuatu, and with financial support from the Nordic World Heritage Foundation, will organize a regional workshop on potential themes for serial and transboundary cultural World Heritage sites in the Pacific at Port Vila, Vanuatu from 5-8 September 2005. The workshop has been proposed within the framework of the Action Plan for the implementation of the World Heritage - Pacific 2009 Programme; please refer to the Objective 2 and Activity 2.5 of the Action Plan. Furthermore, the proposed workshop in Vanuatu is in line with the World Heritage Global Strategy for a balanced, representative and credible World Heritage List. The main objective of the workshop is to reach an agreement on serial and transboundary cultural themes that will assist the Pacific Island Countries in developing their own Tentative Lists. A Desk Study, to serve as basis for the workshop, is being conducted and the report of the Study will be shared with you upon completion.
