Call for applicants - The 2006 Marc de Montalembert Grant for the Understanding of Mediterranean Cultures

Saturday, 31 December 2005

A grant of 7,000 Euros and the possibility of spending six months at the Marc de Montalembert Foundation in the old town of Rhodes is offered to a young Mediterranean for a project linked to the knowledge of the cultures of the Mediterranean region.

The candidate’s research project will include a journey beyond the borders of his or her own country. Through this exposure to another country, it is hoped that he or she will be able to take the measure of the Mediterranean world’s cultural richness and diversity.

The Foundation expects concrete results from the project. Whatever form of expression chosen by the candidate – written, oral, visual – the outcome must be an original piece of work which, if it chooses to do so, the Foundation will help to promote. Should the candidate so desire, the elaboration of the final result of the project can be carried out while in residence at the Marc de Montalembert Foundation on the island of Rhodes.

Candidates must come from a country bordering the Mediterranean and be less than 30 years old. They can present a project related to their professional training, but its realization will be effected outside the usual professional or academic framework. A preference will be shown for projects having to do with Byzantium, the medieval period, or the contemporary Mediterranean world.

Applications must be received in English or French before December 31, 2005 at the:

Fondation Marc de Montalembert
Fondation de France
40, avenue Hoche
75008 Paris
France
