The Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation (COMPACT) programme provides conservation grants to civil society organisations for activities that improve biodiversity conservation and promote sustainable livelihoods in UNESCO World Heritage sites. The programme is run by UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre and the UNDP-led Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme, and it is aimed at strengthening the engagement of local communities and indigenous peoples in the management of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Call for project proposals is now open for eligible civil society organisations, academic and research institutions to submit project proposals in support of the Okavango Delta UNESCO World Heritage site in Botswana.

Proposed projects should align with the strategic priorities outlined in the COMPACT site strategy and the revised Okavango Delta Management Plan, and they should relate to conservation of biological and cultural diversity, sustainable livelihoods, indigenous and local knowledge, or related themes.

To consult the Terms of Reference and to apply, check the public notice.

The application deadline is 16 January 2025.
