Within the framework of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust project "Capacity Building to Support the Conservation of World Heritage Sites and Enhance Sustainable Development of Local Communities in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)" the World Heritage Centre will organize a capacity-building workshop for Government officials and community representatives of Cook Islands, which will be held in Rarotonga (Cook Islands) from 11 to 15 March 2013.
The objective of the workshop is to build capacity of the Cook Islands’ government authorities and various stakeholders in topics including the process and procedures of the 1972 World Heritage Convention, the 1994 Global Strategy with an emphasis on SIDS, the making of an inventory of cultural & natural heritage sites, and how to develop Tentative Lists, Management Plans and Nominations.
