A Pacific Regional World Heritage Workshop will be organized by UNESCO World Heritage Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Samoa at Apia from 5 to 9 September 2011. This activity has been financed by the UNESCO/Australian Funds-in-Trust with the World Heritage Centre.
The workshop will bring together about 70 national representatives and experts in preservation of cultural and natural heritage from 16 Member States in the Pacific and from some of the State Parties with territories in the Pacific Region, the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee and other regional partners. Participants will review the provisional outcome of the on-going second cycle of Periodic Reporting exercise and assess the progress made on the implementation of the Pacific World Heritage Action Plan (2010-2015) in conjunction with the current Periodic Reporting process. They will be offered an opportunity to discuss other related issues, such as the development of knowledge management, capacity building and sustainable funding mechanisms through the project "Pacific Heritage Hub" (PHH), and the integrated application of the UNESCO Conventions in the field of safeguarding heritage.
