3rd International Conference on Natural World Heritage in the Asia and Pacific Region

5-8 November 2007
The third International Conference on Natural World Heritage will take place at Mount E'mei World Heritage site in Sichuan Province of China from 5 to 8 November 2007. With support from the World Heritage Centre, this conference will be co-organized by China's Ministry of Construction, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and the Government of Sichuan Province of China.

Representatives of national and local authorities (including World Heritage site managers) from some 30 Asia-Pacific States Parties with Natural World Heritage properties located on their territories are invited to participate in this international conference.

Since 2000, as proposed and initiated by the Government of Japan and the concerned local authorities, the first and second sessions of the International Conference on Natural World Heritage have been successfully held in Kagoshima and Shirakami-Sanchi, Japan respectively in 2000 and 2005. This program has been appreciated by the World Heritage Committee and UNESCO, and has proved beneficiary to the conservation of Natural World Heritage properties in the Asia and Pacific region.

The present conference is aimed at exploring an effective long-term mechanism for the conservation of Natural World Heritage, and promoting the harmonious co-existence of man and nature through cooperation and the exchange of management experiences among local authorities and site managers in the Asia and Pacific region.

A Mount E'mei Declaration on World Natural Heritage Sustainable Conservation and Development is expected to be adopted at the meeting.
