Central Europe's Natural World Heritage and the Future of Cultural Landscapes - Part VI: "Tourism Planning and Management for Natural World Heritage Sites in Central and Eastern Europe"

Are Central Europe's most precious natural values and landscapes well protected? And is their outstanding universal value reflected in the list of World Natural Heritage sites?

Within a three-year series of seminars and workshops (2005-2007) on "Central Europe's Natural World Heritage Sites and the Future of Cultural Landscapes", experts from Central Europe are assessing potential sites to be nominated as serial and/or transboundary World Natural Heritage Sites. Furthermore, the management of existing sites is being improved through training seminars. This exercise is a response to the call of UNESCO for a "Global Strategy for a representative, balanced and credible World Heritage List". An essential part of this exercise will be the harmonisation of the Central European "tentative lists", which each country was obliged to submit by 2007 to UNESCO.

The sixth workshop aims at improving the management of sustainable tourism in World Natural Heritage Sites.

The event is organized by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), IUCN and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Participants will include national World Natural Heritage Focal Points for Central and East European countries, representatives of the German "Länder", BfN, BMU, IUCN, UNESCO, NGOs and various experts.
