1st Regional Conference of the OWHC’s Regional Secretariat for Asia-Pacific

24-26 September 2014

From 24 to 26 September 2014, the OWHC’s Regional Secretariat for Asia-Pacific will hold its first regional conference in the city of Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

The conference is organized in close cooperation with the Gyeongju Municipal Government, the UNESCO Bangkok Office, the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea, and the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region (WHITRAP).

Under the overall theme of “Challenges of World Heritage Cities - Vision and Reality”, the meeting will reflect on the challenges that historic cities face when managing their urban heritage today and for future generations. It shall be a good moment to contribute to strengthening the cooperation and exchange of good practices among World Heritage Cities in the region.

The conference will comprise the following two parts:

Experts’ Workshop: 24 September
“People centered conservation principle for World Heritage cities and towns”
at Gyochon Academy, Gyeongju

Mayors’ Meeting: 25-26 September
“Challenges of World Heritage Cities - Vision and Reality”
at Hilton Hotel, Gyeongju
