Madam, Sir,

I would like to inform you that the World Heritage Committee, at its 36th session (Saint Petersburg, 2012), examined the Progress Report on Periodic Reporting in Europe and North America. Please find attached in Annex I the Decision 36 COM 10B adopted by the Committee.

At its 36th session, the World Heritage Committee officially launched the Second Cycle of the Periodic Reporting in Europe and North America. For complete information and guidance tools for the implementation of the Periodic Reporting exercise please refer to the web platform which is available at https://whc.unesco.org/en/153  . The World Heritage Centre remains at your disposal for any questions that may arise which may be addressed by e-mail to wh-periodicreporting@unesco.org .

I also take this opportunity to inform you about the dates of the upcoming sub-regional Periodic Reporting meetings:

  • The national Focal Points for Periodic Reporting from Nordic, Baltic, Western and MediterraneanEurope shall meet in Berlin (Germany) from 24 to 26 September 2012, at a meeting hosted by Germany and organized in collaboration with the World Heritage Centre.
  • The national Focal Points for Periodic Reporting from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe shall meet in Tbilisi (Georgia) from 14 to 16 November 2012, at a meeting hosted by Georgia and organized in collaboration with the World Heritage Centre.

In its decision, the World Heritage Committee also reiterated its gratitude to the States Parties who have made or pledged to make financial contributions to the implementation of the Second Cycle of the Periodic Reporting exercise in Europe and North America. Given the importance of the Periodic Reporting exercise further support and collaboration will be much appreciated. I would like to invite you to contact the World Heritage Centre to discuss the possible cooperation in the framework of this exercise.

Please note that the World Heritage Centre will provide shortly the National Focal Points and Site Managers of the States Parties included in Group A (please refer to Annex II) with all necessary information concerning access to the online questionnaire of the Periodic Reporting exercise.
