Description

to: Permanent Delegations (Mediterranean Europe)

Madam, Sir,
In the framework of the Preparation of the Second Cycle of Periodic Reporting in Europe and North America Region, the national Focal Points for Periodic Reporting from Mediterranean Europe shall meet in Valletta on 21-24 September 2011, at a meeting hosted by Malta and organized with the collaboration of the World Heritage Centre. Your Focal Points have already received an invitation from the Maltese authorities on 19 July 2011.

I would like to draw your attention to the importance of this workshop for the preparation of national Periodic Reports by the countries of the above-mentioned sub-region. National Focal Points will be expected, after the workshop, to organize national workshops/seminars and act as trainers in further seminars and workshops with national authorities and site managers, in order to prepare the Periodic Reporting for the region, including Statements of Outstanding Universal Value (OUV).

Also, the national Focal Points for Periodic Reporting should be in charge of the coordination and overall preparation of the reporting, including collaboration with site managers and other relevant national and local authorities, throughout the whole process of the Periodic Reporting Exercise. To facilitate the participation of Focal Points from all the countries of the subregion, the host country will cover some meals during the workshop (one/two participant by country). All other expenses including accommodation for each participant should be covered by his/her country. Logistical details as well as the agenda of the workshop will be communicated to your Focal Points shortly by the host country. For any further information please contact Ms MariaEiena Zammit, National Focal Point of Malta for Periodic Reporting on UNESCO World Heritage Sites (maria-elena.zammit@gov.mt, phone: +356 2123 1236).

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your cooperation and support in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
