Launched as a pilot programme on the occasion of the 3rd International Forum on Local Economic Development in 2015, with a first international workshop on the management of food-productive landscapes in UNESCO designated sites, the Academy is based in Turin, Italy.
The main objective of the programme is to contribute to the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, through the advancement of institutional and professional capacities of managing authorities and relevant operators from UNESCO designated sites. In so doing, the Academy’s specificity is to offer a platform for developing knowledge and exchanging experiences on the management of different UNESCO designations, including: the World Heritage Lists; the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Network; and, the Creative Cities Network.
Beside the training activities, the Academy also supports the establishment of a Community of good management practices in UNESCO designated areas, intended as an international cooperative network of site managers, operators and practitioners able to disseminate sustainable practices of territorial management.
