The final meeting in the Second Cycle of the Periodic Report on the State of World Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean will take place from 3 to 5 December in Santiago, Chile. The objective of the meeting is to draw up a World Heritage Action Plan (2013-2020) for this region.

The activity is in compliance with Decision 36 COM 10C, approved by the World Heritage Committee at its 36th Session that took place in St Petersburg, Russia, in July this year. The head of the Latin American and Caribbean Unit, UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Nuria Sanz, will attend the meeting.

The head of the Latin American and Caribbean Unit UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Nuria Sanz, will be at the meeting. “This will be the first time that the World Heritage community in Latin America and the Caribbean meet in Chile. More than thirty countries will discuss the future of Regional World Heritage in Santiago, so we expect a rich debate about the ways in which the World Heritage can contribute to the development of programmes that the international community is preparing for after 2015, where the sites will be the stage for collaboration with social policies that contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals. We hope that this meeting will confirm the goal of creating cooperation platforms between the 130 sites on the list so far”.

The organization of this high-level event is the result of a joint effort between diverse national public institutions: the Government of Chile; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Education; the National Monuments Board; the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CNCA); and the Department of Libraries, Archives and Museums (Dibam). In addition, the Latin American and Caribbean Unit, UNESCO World Heritage Centre will be there in close cooperation with the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) in close collaboration with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

The meeting will be held in the Lo Contador University Campus, in the World Heritage Centre of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
