The United Nations Development Programme has launched the new edition of "Picture this", an international photo contest.
Through the photo contest this year, UNDP hopes to bring much needed attention to the quickly approaching deadline for achieving the Millennium Development Goals in order to motivate people and governments in developed and developing countries to redouble their efforts in the fight against extreme poverty. At a time when the world's attention will be focused on these issues, the winning photos will put a human face on the MDGs. The contest is meant to highlight the importance of the MDGs and the inspirational work that is already being done in developing and developed countries to achieve them.
Amateur and professional photographers can participate to the contest and are allowed to submit up to three pictures in one of the eight Goals. Participants are allowed to enter the contest more than once and select a different Goal every time, provided that each submitted set of pictures is unique to the selected Goal.
The 2010 contest will include a People's Choice Award where the public will vote for their favourite photo online through the contest website.
The winning pictures will be exhibited during the United Nations MDG Summit and United Nations General Assembly in September, 2010 in New York.
Pictures must be submitted before midnight 16 July, 2010 via the contest website:
