The World Heritage Committee,
- Having examined Document WHC/17/41.COM/7A,
- Recalling Decision 40 COM 7A.4, adopted at its 40th session (Istanbul/UNESCO, 2016),
- Congratulates the State Party for the progress made in the implementation of the corrective measures that are required to achieve the Desired state of conservation for the removal of the property from the List of World Heritage in Danger (DSOCR);
- Welcomes the agreement for the extension of the site museum and its facilities, as well as the Pan-American Conservation Centre for Earthen Heritage Sites (PCCEHS), among others;
- Acknowledges the commitment expressed by the State Party to update the Archaeological Intervention Manual and the Integral Risk Prevention Plan;
- Takes note of the progress made in three main pending issues and that administrative processes for their completion are under way, and urges the State Party to give high priority to:
- The formal adoption of the Master Plan by the Minister of Culture,
- The formal delimitation of the buffer zone and elaboration of its regulatory measures, which may incorporate the Guidelines document proposed for the Municipality of Trujillo,
- The review of the draft regulations for Law 28161 which will address the issue of illegal occupations, following observations made by the Office of the Prime Minister;
- Requests the State Party to submit to the World Heritage Centre, by 1 February 2018, an updated report on the state of conservation of the property and the implementation of the above, for examination by the World Heritage Committee at its 42nd session in 2018;
- Decides to retain Chan Chan Archaeological Zone (Peru) on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
