Decision 19 COM VIII.C.1
Inscription: Chongmyo Shrine (Republic of Korea)

Chongmyo Shrine

738

Republic of Korea

C(iv)

The Committee decided to inscribe this site on the World Heritage List on the basis of criterion (iv), as an outstanding example of the Confucian royal ancestral shrine, which has survived relatively intact since the 16th century, the importance of which is enhanced by the persistence there of an important element of the intangible cultural heritage in the form of traditional ritual practices and forms.

The Delegate of Japan congratulated the Government of the Republic Korea for the inscription of the three cultural properties on the World Heritage List, and stated that they contribute to enhancing the representative nature of the List.
