The World Heritage Committee, 1. Notes the information provided by the State Party and by the World Heritage Centre on the state of conservation of the property; 2. Regrets that the illegal construction of a building adjacent to the archaeological area of the property could not be prevented; 3. Encourages the State Party to pursue its efforts towards the protection of the property, especially in establishing an archaeological marine reserve, in developing as soon as possible, detailed Urban Conservation Plans integrating Environmental Impact Assessment procedures for all new constructions, and in finalizing the complete archaeological map of Tyre; 4. Further encourages the State Party to complete the study undertaken in 2001 concerning the present Port and, as soon as available, submit it to the World Heritage Centre for the consideration of the Committee; 5. Expresses its support to the transformation of the commercial port into a tourist marina; 6. Requests the State Party to maintain close consultations with the World Heritage Centre on the development of the various initiatives under way in Tyre, including the interventions in the framework of the World Bank Project; 7. Invites the international community to support the International Campaign for the Safeguarding of Tyre.
