Video Message from Ted Turner A video message from patron Ted Turner was prepared for the Venice Congress congratulating UNESCO on the 30th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. Turner thanked UNESCO for being “an important example of international cooperation and a big success.” As founder, president and CEO of the United Nations Foundation (UNF), Turner has donated over $30 million to World Heritage conservation efforts and the UNF has raised over $500 million to protect biodiversity, habitat loss, and fight invasive species. He said that his long-standing commitment to the United Nations and its work is based on the simple principle: work things out, don’t fight them out. “Protecting our cultural and natural heritage embodies this principle,” said Turner. Reminding participants that the United States has agreed to rejoin UNESCO, Turner said that the UN Foundation was “pleased to have encouraged the public and policy makers to better understand UNESCO’s important work.” He concluded his message by pointing out how the UNF work reflects partnerships: “Partnership is what the UN is all about, it’s what the Convention is all about, and it’s what the UNF is all about.” Click here to see Ted Turner's Video Message Back to News |
