Description
This monumental area contains Mayan cities like Yaxhá, Nakum, Naranjo and Holmul, which settled in strategic places for the obtaining of abundant nutritious resources and raw material. These archaeological places were adapted to the land for the construction of enormous squares surrounded by temples and palaces, placed in different geologic terraces. It outstanding in a spectacular way the construction of pyramidal buildings of great height and the vault employment in saledizo in the internal enclosures of temples and palaces, as well as the use of roadways, ball games and astronomical complex. In association with the buildings stelaes and altars were placed sculpted with representations of gods and leaders celebrating diverse events. Another sculpture form is the stuccoed mascarones that decorate the facades of the buildings.
