Sarfannguit at night in October. Aasivissuit – Nipisat is situated just north of the Arctic Circle. Winter is therefore characterized by long, dark nights and at the winter solstice the sun remains below the horizon for a few days. This cold period with long, dark nights is the prime time for the northern lights.
