The oldest tourist destination is the city, whose aim was at the beginning welcome travelers of religious pilgrimage.
Other activities of this type were identified with significant milestones and trade routes, which were the initial basis and created a hosting infrastructure and food -inns, guest houses, taverns- both populations, villas or destination cities, as in the different points along the route or at the crossroads of paths.
At present, when tourism development has reached a degree of maturity, the segment of cultural tourism and the more general framework, urban tourism or heritage tourism, taking big boom.
Culture is no longer a pleasure for a few and has become need of many, if ancillary to be essential; therefore, the "consumption of cultural goods" and cultural exchange is currently one of the most important elements of leisure. The rise of the cultural heritage and specifically, urban tourism are phenomena that characterize postmodern society.
Cities, on the other hand, are complex areas that function in many different variables: architectural, urban, cultural, environmental, economic, political, among others.
Tourist projection of a locality, both nationally and internationally, is the result of hard work and coordinated to which must be added all the services and institutions in the area, as the only approach "tourist city" involves a proposal unit and planned beyond any time event and wherein positioning a unit, strong and cohesive "brand image" to the potential market concept, structure the success of a project involving receptivity and successful tourist experience .
This mode is highly interesting for heritage and conservation, because through it the tourist feels the characteristics that identify a particular village, but also undertakes to maintain and keep in proper physical or intangible that substrate conditions, historical, architectural , urban, inter alia, that the tourist will enjoy.
Tourism, in its variant of cultural tourism, studied as socio-cultural phenomenon, evidenced by its interaction with the cultural heritage that underpins it. Moreover, the cultural heritage, social and economic projection requires cultural tourism as a means of promoting tourist destinations whose main attraction is identifying those cultural features of the place.
