RICARDO PORRO
ASK A QUESTION

Ricardo Porro, who views architecture as a poetic expression of human activity, nevertheless places high priority on functionality. The philosophy is apparent in all of his work, and in particular in the School of Fine Arts he designed in post-revolution Havana. Since moving to France in the mid-1960s he has designed numerous cultural and educational facilities, contributing to the revitalisation of suburban satellite towns and provincial cities. Having taught at the schools of architecture in Lille (France), Berlin, Rabat and Graz (Austria), Porro's humanism has attracted the young. Porro is unique, in his own way romantic, giving in the words of Novalis, a "mysterious aspect to that which is banal, dignity to the unknown and an indefinte halo to that which is finished."
