DOCOMOMO
ASK A QUESTION
DOCOMOMO ('International working party for Documentation and
Conservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the Modern Movement')
was founded in 1989 as an independent network of experts in the field of
documentation and conservation of architecture and urban design of the Modern Movement.
General aims are:
- The exchange of know-how and ideas on modern architecture and design
and its documentation and conservation
- To act as a watchdog when buildings or sites are in jeopardy
- To stimulate the interest of the public in general and the proper
authorities in particular to the significance of this part of the cultural heritage
An elected Executive Committee ensures that agreed policies are fulfilled
and plans forthcoming conferences (the Fifth International DOCOMOMO
Conference will held in Stockholm, September 16-18). National working
parties have been established in all member countries. International
Specialist Committees (ISCs) have been operating in the areas of registers,
technology, urbanism, landscapes and gardens, education and publications.
The ISCs fulfil the need to assemble expertise, establish archives, form
a specialist network, publish findings, create lobbying groups and "spread the word".
Members are being kept informed through the DOCOMOMO Journal, which is being published
twice a year by the DOCOMOMO International Secretariat.
