Mundo Maya Organization
Mundo Maya Organization was formed by Belize , Salvador , Guatelmala , Honduras and Mexico to join efforts to work towards a regional project that will promote their millenary Maya legacy. The organisation is focused on the development of a sustainable tourism program based on environmental and cultural preservation, ensuring the participation of the communities to improve their quality of life.
Partnership
Mundo Maya Organization works together and co-operates with UNESCO's World Heritage Centre as an advisory and advocacy body aiding project design, planning and implementation at Mesoamerican World Heritage sites.
Objectives
- Promote a policy of engagement and sustainability at the World Heritage sites along the Mundo Maya region to ultimately aid the site protection.
- Help facilitate trans-boundary and inter-governmental cooperation.
- Promote indigenous cultures.
- Advocate the private tourism sector to aid in site coordination.
- Help develop and disseminate information on management, planning, training and local economic development products and projects.
