The park was established in 1935 and it is one of two parks in the Sudan designated as Biosphere Reserves. Dinder in also proposed as the first Ramsar site in Sudan. The park lies along the transition ecotone between two floristic regions : the Ethiopian high plateau and the arid sahara Sudanian biomes. The park also lies along the boundary of two major faunal realms. i.e. the Paleartic and Ethiopian region. The park in dominated by Acacia Se al and Balanich ecosystem and rivervine and may (meadows) ecosystems about 2.7 large mammalian spp. Are present and about 200 spp. Of birds and diversity of fish and reptice. Diversity of local communities including indigenous tribes living around the park.
