Link to the decision

Garajonay National Park (Spain)

The Committee was informed of a road construction project, funded by EEC as part of a large-scale integrated development scheme for the Island of Gomera. If completed, the road would have had serious impacts on the World Heritage site. The Committee was informed that apparently this threat had now been mitigated. Nevertheless, the Committee asked the Secretariat to write to the Spanish authorities and the EEC emphasizing the need for noninterference with the integrity of this or any other World Heritage site in the implementation of such development schemes.
