Current conservation issues
Support for equipment provided by the World Heritage Fund has arrived and put to immediate use.
IUCN has also secured funds and is working with the Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to do a land use evaluation and policy study of the area.
IUCN has also helped arrange a technical exchange programme between the NCA and the Countryside Commission of the UK. A workshop will be held early in 1988 at which time a recommendation on its threatened status will be made.
Conclusion
The prospects for removing this property from the danger list are improving.
Decision
11COMVIII.17
Link to the decision
17. The Committee noted with satisfaction that the situation in two of the natural sites inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger - namely Djoudj National Park (Senegal) and Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Tanzania) - had considerably improved in the last year and that IUCN would be proposing that they be removed from the List of World Heritage in Danger in the next two years. The situation of Garamba National Park (Zaire) was also improving but was still critical.
