Charity auction for the safeguarding of Timbuktu manuscripts
The Cultural Fund Arts & Ouvrage is organizing a charity auction for the safeguarding of Timbuktu manuscripts in cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, under the supervision of the auction house Art Valorem (www.art-valorem.fr).
This auction will take place on Saturday 24 May 2014 at 6.00 pm at room V.V, 3 rue Rossini 75009 Paris. The exhibition of the works will be open to the public the same day from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm.
A conference on Timbuktu manuscripts will be held from 4.00 to 5.30 pm, led by Jean-Michel Djian, with the presence of a representative from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Permanent Delegation of Mali to UNESCO who will present the Action Plan for the safeguard and preservation of these manuscripts. The profits generated from this auction will be donated to UNESCO, which will be used to acquire conservation boxes for each manuscript of which the unit cost is 20 USD. We have called this auction “20 BUCKS A BOX”.
