The "Machalilla National Park" was established on July of 1979 under a Government Decree. It is located on the Central Coast of Ecuador, Manabi Province, and is considered one of the most beautiful countryside of the Coast. A large extension of the park is covered with primary forest of the type so called "dry tropical forest. Likewise, a number of archeological sites, belonging mostly to the Manteno Culture can be found within the boundaries of the park. The most conspicuous of those archeological sites are La Plata Island, Salango Island, Salango, La Playita, Puerto Lopez, Agua Blanca and Los Frailes. The par has therefore both natural and cultural resources.
